There were times in 2022 when Tagovailoa looked like the best quarterback in Fantasy, and other times when it looked like he should never play football again. Tagovailoa had some impressive performances last season when healthy, scoring at least 29 Fantasy points in four games, including a 50-point outing in Week 2 at Baltimore. But multiple concussions limited Tagovailoa to 13 games, and there are many Fantasy managers who consider him an injury risk this season. The Dolphins are confident in Tagovailoa, who has been cleared to play, and he's worth drafting as a low-end starter in all leagues. He has an amazing receiving corps with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, and Mike McDaniel allowed Tagovailoa to thrive in their first year together. You'll need to draft a second quarterback with Tagovailoa in one-quarterback leagues to cover yourself in case he gets hurt, but he has top-10 upside at his position. In one-quarterback leagues, Tagovailoa is worth drafting with a mid-round pick. In Superflex and two-quarterback leagues, expect Tagovailoa to be drafted no later than Round 4.
Lawrence will enter the 2023 draft cycle as one of the most popular breakout picks at quarterback, and there's a lot to like about his projection. Lawrence made massive strides across the board in key metrics like touchdown rate, yards per attempt and completion percentage. He also started to convert his athleticism into points with five touchdowns on the ground. His 2023 supporting cast only gets better with the addition of Calvin Ridley. With his price likely to inflate as draft season unfolds, it's important to note Lawrence finished as a QB1 in just six games in 2022 and he had three weekly finishes outside the top 24. If you want to swing for Lawrence's upside, you'll probably have to grab him in Round 5.
Rodgers brought the Packers playbook from 2019-21 and a bunch of his old teammates with him to New York, but it's his health and a deep receiving corps that matter the most. Renewed with a fresh start and a coaching staff that will probably let him throw as much as he wants (they let below-average quarterbacks do it in 2022), Rodgers has potential to rebound to over 24 Fantasy points per game like he did in 2020 and 2021. And if it's not enough that Rodgers will have his say in the offense, he'll throw to dynamic second-year receiver Garrett Wilson while working behind a deep offensive line. Rodgers turns 40 in December and his schedule is projected to be very difficult. Those are drawbacks, but that's why Rodgers will be picked closer to the 12th QB off the board rather than the sixth, which merely makes him a spectacular low-risk gamble starting in Round 10 in one-QB leagues.
Lance has started five football games and thrown 132 passes over the past three years, including his final year at North Dakota State. As he enters Year 3 in the NFL, he is still not guaranteed to start a game with the 49ers calling Brock Purdy their starter when he is healthy. If Purdy starts Week 1, Lance should only be rostered in Dynasty leagues and deep redraft leagues where you can start more than one quarterback. If Purdy starts 17 games, we may not even be rostering Lance in Dynasty a year from now. On the flip side, if Lance gets a chance to start this year, we think there is a very good chance his running ability and Kyle Shanahan's system will make him a viable Fantasy starter.
